TITANIUM – METAL OF THE GODS

Why titanium glasses represent a great investment

Titanium is not only in great demand as a material for eyewear frames. Due to its unique properties, it is used in a wide variety of industries. Titanium is extremely widely used, for example, in aviation, shipping, and also in the medical and sports sectors.

Why we at CHARMANT believe totally in this unique material? Here are some of the reasons:

Titanium is light as a feather

Many people who wear glasses are familiar with the problem: headaches due to frames that are too heavy or create excessive pressure behind the ears. People with sensitive temples or mastoids are particularly affected. Due to their lightness and - depending on the material composition - also due to their flexibility, titanium glasses are a real treat for the head and provide a whole new level of comfort.

    Titanium is resistant to corrosion

Due to its high corrosion resistance, titanium is often used for components of ships or desalination plants, since it is not affected by sea water. For people who live in hot areas, sweat a lot or spend a lot of time by the sea, titanium pays off as a material for glasses. Despite moisture presence, it does not rust and, unlike some conventional metal frames, does not turn greenish after a while.

    Titanium is robust

Titanium glasses can withstand a lot. It is not for nothing that titanium is used in the aerospace industry, where strong and temperature-resistant material properties are required. A material that can withstand such high loads and perform at extremes is definitely not the worst choice for eyewear frames.

Titanium does not cause nickel allergy

Nickel is the leading cause of contact allergies in the industrialized world. As soon as there is sensitivity to nickel, it is usually a lifelong condition. Symptoms include itching, dry skin, red rashes, and blisters. Affected people should make sure when choosing glasses that no nickel is present.  Even if it is coated with another material, nickel may be exposed if the upper material is chipped off and thus comes into contact with the skin. Titanium glasses are definitely one of the best alternatives here.

But be careful: Titanium is not just titanium

There are significant quality differences in titanium materials. The difference lies in the detail and standards of extraction and further processing. Japanese titanium is proven to be the purest and therefore the highest quality available on the market. It is manufactured under the strictest quality controls and is the material of choice, especially in the high-tech sector. Numerous tests prove the superiority of Japanese titanium over titanium of other origin.

    Extraction of titanium is expensive

Yes, you have to dig deeper into your pocket for titanium glasses. This is due to the complex material extraction and processing, a highly technical process that is necessary before the material can be used for the production of eyewear frames. However, thanks to its durability, it is also a long-term companion. A potentially slightly higher initial price investment will soon pay off, because the price-performance ratio is right and everyone who chooses titanium glasses will undoubtedly be able to enjoy them for a long time.

    Our passion for titanium

At CHARMANT, we remain deeply convinced of the use of titanium in our frames and over the years have become renowned and respected titanium experts. In 1987 we were one of the first eyewear manufacturers in the world to launch a collection made entirely of titanium - a real sensation at that time.

Over the many years that we have been working with titanium, we have overcome numerous technological barriers and acquired an enormous amount of experience and know-how. We have developed our own patented titanium alloys and the machines that are needed to process them optimally.

Japanese titanium is still a fundamental component of our CHARMANT collections today. However, a decisive difference lies in the breadth of our portfolio. Where there was only one titanium line in 1987, today we can answer the needs of many different wearers with our house brand collections, all made mostly of titanium.
