MIDO 2023 – A chance to meet the eyewear industry in one place

In this interview Chris Beal, Executive Vice president & COO CHARMANT Europe, talks about the CHARMANT experience at eyewear show MIDO in 2023.

What importance does MIDO have for CHARMANT?

MIDO has been a hugely important event in the CHARMANT Group’s exhibition calendar for many years and is always an exciting experience for us. It is a truly global show and as such attracts visitors from around the world. This gives us opportunities to engage with those of our existing customers with whom we don’t get chance to meet too often, CHARMANT Group colleagues and industry peers.

Of course we are also taking the opportunity to show the world the full extent of the CHARMANT Group’s capabilities and discuss not only our extensive portfolio but explore other opportunities that being a vertical supplier creates.

A highlight at MIDO will be the new brand GEO Eyewear. What is the intention of the brand and how is it relevant for the market?

We are tremendously excited to be showcasing our new sustainable brand GEO Eyewear at MIDO especially after the acclaim it has received during the recent launch at opti Munich.

Although there are a number of sustainable collections already out there we have taken our time to get the GEO Eyewear brand concept and product execution right - that is, as complete in terms of sustainability as possible and with total supply chain transparency. As integrity is one of our keys pillars we have developed the brand with absolute clarity and with an avoidance of greenwashing.

Sustainability is of course a major issue today, not only in eyewear but in our daily lives as the battle to save our planet really must be engaged. Climate change is not a trend. This brand is part of our sustainability drive as a Group and is created to cover our three cornerstones of sustainability: Environmental, Economic and Society.

The brand and products therein have been created to be inclusive, affordable and sustainable whilst also contributing to society under two separate community initiatives. We are also striving to create awareness and get customers and consumers really thinking about what they can do to be part of solution.

What are you particularly looking forward to at MIDO 2023?

After the last few years of restricted travel and show cancellations due to the pandemic we are excited to once again be at a full version of MIDO.

As well as our latest release launches, we are thrilled to be meeting with our customers face to face once again and seeing our global peers to explore where this fantastic industry of ours can go to next.
