DESIGNER’S CHOICE (Favourite Sunglasses for 2020)

Our Italian designers reveal what their favourite sunglasses are

Given the mind-boggling range of sunglasses available, it’s often a major task to pick one model.
We asked our Milanese designers Stefania and Matteo to help us out by telling us what their favourite sunglasses for this season are and why.

STEFANIA'S TOP 3 SUNGLASSES

STRELLSON - SN33222P
I love these men’s metal sunglasses because they are minimal, stylish and out of the ordinary. What’s very special is the bridge – it’s not your typical construction so it’s beyond trend and makes the frame appear lighter. The cool factor is enhanced by polarizing lenses that do a great job protecting the eyes from sun reflections. My personal favourites are the blue ones. They’re outstanding! I would recommend this frame to my friends because of the lightness and quality of the materials. They wouldn’t be dissatisfied, that’s for sure!

ELLE - EL14894
These sunglasses immediately drive my thoughts to the magic of a Parisian street. I imagine a woman sashaying down a French avenue, exuding natural elegance and wearing this perfectly placed Elle frame. The frame shape is sophisticated and the boldness of the profile top and ornamental temples remind me vividly of the early 1960s and Audrey Hepburn’s style. Even if it is the most classic colour, I still go for black but would also opt for the green model because it's so unusual and chic.

ESPRIT - ET17985
The popular wire design trend with its focus on thin lines and airy openings made me select this as my favourite women’s frame for this season. The inspirations come from the abstract modern architectural detail of bracing wire structure. The rose colour shown here is soft and sensuous and would be the ideal look for strolling along Edinburgh’s Fourth Bridge at sundown.

MATTEO'S TOP 3 SUNGLASSES

STRELLSON - SN33223P
These are my favourite Strellson sunglasses! I wear them practically every day. They’re super comfortable and I love their vintage-contemporary vibe with the plastic “Windsor” rim and high-tech polarized lenses with anti-reflection coating. These shades look really cool especially when I drive around in my open-top. Then, I really feel like I’m in the movies!

Esprit - ET17991
This is the frame that I wear when I want to express a more edgy, urban style but still feel comfortable all day. The frame is actually made of plastic but it has a thin metallic double bridge. It feels really light and it has that iconic, bold appeal. The vintage-contemporary angle is a winning point of this look: the shape is classic but it has a modern construction, using metal and injection plastic, and it features trendy mono-toning with the same colour on the frame and lenses.

ELLE  - EL14889
This would be one of my sunglass picks for women this summer. It’s from ELLE and it totally encapsulates the French femininity and elegance of the brand. These sunglasses are light and have several distinctive signature elements like the twisted metal bridge and temples and the double bridge lines. These ornamental features are very reminiscent of the pearl necklace that made Audrey Hepburn’s little black number look so chic.
